While both dragons and drakes are very similar and are often mistaken for each other, they are in fact very different.  Dragons and drakes not only share the same reptilian bodies and long tails, they also share the characteristic of broad, bat-like wings.  Conversely, dragons have forearms, whereas drakes do not.  Dragons are wiser and much more intelligent, and they also live longer.  In comparison, drakes are smaller, but more destructive since they tend to travel in groups.  Drakes are also faster and can dive at rapid speeds because of their smaller size.  Both can breathe fire, but dragons have the potential to be much more destructive, as their fire is hotter and more intense, hot enough to make metal as liquid as water.  On that same note, all drakes breath fire and only fire, while for dragons, often color will denote what they breathe.  For example, white dragons breathe ice, while black dragons breathe acid.  Dragons have night vision; on the other hand, drakes are almost completely blind in darkness.  Dragons are more content to bask on their pile of gold than destroy the country however, and dragons can also hibernate, a skill that drakes do not have.
